About GPP and GPS organised by VKSPV

Vivekananda Kendra Shiksha Prasar Vibhag (VKSPV) Guwahati is a spiritually oriented service organisationb and a facilitator of nationalistic education under the education project of Viviekananda Kendra Kanyakumari (VKK) with cultural moorings in Northeast India. VKSPV is currently having 25 Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas (VKVs), 24 in Assam and 1 in Nagaland. VKSPV organizes various activities to achieve the objective of “ Man Making-Nation Building”. One such activity is Ganit Prajna Samvardhan for the students of classes VI, VII and VIII in Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas fo Assam and Nagaland with the aim to enhance the capacity in the subject Mathematics. The activities under Ganit Prajna Samvardhan are Ganit Prajna Pariksha (GPP), Mathematics Workshop for Students and Teachers, Appreciation cum exposure program for Achievers of GPP. Ganit Prajna Samvardhan(GPS) is another step to appreciate the efforts of the first 10 Rank holders from the concerned classes as well as to expose them to interactions with renowned Mathematicians and Educationist. GPS also encapsulates learning of new tricks and methods in Mathematics and visiting places of interest in the region. Our team has even tried to select such venues for GPS every year that gives achievers the needed exposure. Taking steps to improve our classroom teaching-learning is also a part of GPS. Therefore, various training camps are organized for Teachers as well. Resource persons from within the state and rest of the country are invited to guide our teachers and students through various camps as well as visits to the Vidyalayas. Ganit Prajna Pariksha under Ganit Prajna Samvardhan is an inhouse Mathematics Olyampiad conducted every year in the month of February for the students of classes VI, VII and VIII in all VKVs. GPP started in the year 2016 under the guidance of Sri Kamakant Baliarsingha (Academic Coordinator VKSPV). The question paper of GPP consist of 100 question, out of which 90 questions are set from the NCERT syllabus of classes VI, VII and VIII and 10 questions from Logic and Reasoning. Every year more than 3000 students register their names in GPP. For GPP, school level workshop are conducted by Teachers of the venue school as well as visiting teachers from other VKVs have helped students a lot and it is reflected in their performance and feedback. Development of class specific GPP question bank is an effort of our team to make every child practice questions related to the topic and gain confidence. In some schools we have initiated measures. Awarding merit certificates to all rank holders and the publication of leaflet are also a few steps to motivate students. Also some initiated measures for slow learners are taken seeing their performances in GPP.
